We had planned to journey with Traditional Owner Vincent Temple to Thakailchi but the trade winds and chop made the passage too rough. Particularly as we had young Lockhart students on board. At one stage we were worried there would not be enough buckets on board. The photo above was taken in the calmer waters off Mapiku Isalnd (named after the beautiful frigate (mapanu) birds who circle around it.

The island is leased to Dave who caretakes it and welcomes all onshore. Beside him is a young French woofer. (Woofer is a worker on organic farms)

The kids immediately found lots of milky oysters which made a delicious meal.
