On our first journey to Thakailchi (Rocky Point) with the TO's and family we came across some flowering clumps of Lomandra, which is used extensively for weaving.
Evelyn Omeenyo, a Thakailchi lady, collected a good bunch, saying that as there has been a lot of burning around Lockhart and it has been difficult to collect locally.
Evelyn is part of a group that call themselves 'The Old Girls' from Lockhart River and this group has shown their work nationally and internationally.
Here is an example of her work, though this 'Puunya' is made with pandanus.
